A systematic review published in 2000 predicted a high 4-year implant survival of 97% for single implants. However, the “uncomplicated crown maintenance” rate for these same patients was 83%, indicating a 17% complication rate with the crowns. As a result, the, authors of this report stated that “crown complications are common.” In contrast, a 2008 systematic review reported a high survival rate for both single implants (96.8%) and their associated single crowns (94.5%) after five years.
