5 years clinical study narrow implants

Immediate provisionalization in the esthetic zone with narrow diameter implants: 5-year results

INTRODUCTION

Restoring  lateral  maxillary incisors and lateral and central mandibular  incisors is  often challenging because of the limited space available for implant placement as well as high patient expectations (1,2). Narrow-diameter  tapered  implants  are  frequently  used  in  this indication because they fit between adjacent natural tooth roots and are well-suited for an optimized emergence profile of the final restoration.

The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate  the  efficacy  and  safety  of  a variable-thread  tapered 3.0  mm implants (NobelActive 3.0, Nobel Biocare) placed in immediate function in private clinic and hospital-based settings over a 5-year follow-up period.

KEY RESULTS

  • High 5-year cumulative implant survival and success rates of narrow diameter tapered implant, 96.5% and 95.2% respectively.
  • Stable marginal bone levels after initial bone remodeling with no change in mean marginal bone levels (MBLC) between 1 & 5 years follow-up.
  • Healthy soft tissue throughout the follow-up period.

Giovanni Polizzi: Innovative implant concepts for limited space situations in the anterior region

The lecture covers low invasive treatment options of narrow mesio-distal spaces with small, 3.0 mm diameter implants. This implant type is indicated for single restorations in the esthetic zone in case of e.g. congenitally missing or traumatized upper laterals and lower incisors. H

Philippe Russe: Explore the advantages of guided surgery for narrow spaces

Narrow spaces, especially in the aesthetic zone, have always been challenging for implant placement. Anatomic hard tissue reconstruction before implant placement is a pre-requisite in case of deficiency. At the time of implant placement, surgical guides in the past were not adapted...
