Soft tissue management: single tooth rehabilitation
This patient was referred by an endodontist for veneer treatment of tooth #21 FDI (#9 US). The root showed signs of resorption and a long-term survival was questionable. Therefore as an initial treatment option, the tooth was restored with a composite veneer only.
Three months later, the patient presented again with a slight apical recession. To avoid further aesthetic complications following the advanced root resorption, the tooth had to be removed.
As a treatment option, an immediate implant placement with an adjacent muco-gingival surgery was chosen. But since this first surgical intervention did not offer a favorable outcome, a second surgery had to be carried out to improve the condition of the soft tissue. As a definitive restoration, a customized zirconia abutment and crown were placed.
