Dr. Wolfgang Bolz discusses managing a terminal/failing dentition with procedures which are both preditable and efficient. He discusses common barriers to treatment faced by patients. The number of patients that need dental treatment is growing exponentially, while the percentage of patients that seek and receive care is minimal. The questions become: Where are these patients? And, how do we get them to seek dental care? Encouraging patients to seek the treatment they need can be accomplished through marketing and patient oriented management teams. Dr. Bolz discusses in depth the procedural aspects of treatment, as well as the necessary hardware. He explains the importance of having multiple implant designs in order to tailor the treatment and implants to fit the patient’s needs. He shares statistics from his own practice, where he reviewed data from over 380 patients treated with a “fixed teeth in one day” procedure, revealing high success rates in both the maxilla and mandible. The results of the patients they treat yield great insight into the treatment of the failing dentition and treatment options available to patients.
Dr. Wolfgang Bolz studied dental medicine at the University of Munich. He was Secretary General of the German Society of Periodontology (DGP) from 1989 to 1998, founding member of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) and its Secretary General from 1991 to 2000. Dr. Bolz was founder and Editorial Board member of the journal „Parodontologie“. In 1999, the DGP elected him Specialist for Periodontology. He founded the Institute for Periodontology and implantology (IPI) in Munich in 1994, together with Prof. Wachtel. In early 2009, they opened the “BolzWachtel Dental Clinic”. He is organizer of numerous national and international meetings and workshops and (co-)author of many scientific articles on periodontology and implant dentistry.
