Many patients long for fast, painless and effective treatment for their failing dentition. In Germany, an estimated 10 million patients are already edentulous or will soon become edentulous. The treatment options presented to them usually include long, invasive, painful and expensive measures. Therefore, they usually postpone going to their dentist to seek treatment.
Only after consultation and education about alternative treatment options, explaining that they can have their smile and function back in one day, this group of patients accept treatment.
By sharing examples of their patient stories, this presentation explains an approach and experience after having treated almost 1000 patients over 8 years. The focus of this presentation is patients and their perspective.
Dr. Wolfgang Bolz studied dental medicine at the University of Munich. He was Secretary General of the German Society of Periodontology (DGP) from 1989 to 1998, founding member of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) and its Secretary General from 1991 to 2000. Dr. Bolz was founder and Editorial Board member of the journal „Parodontologie“. In 1999, the DGP elected him Specialist for Periodontology. He founded the Institute for Periodontology and implantology (IPI) in Munich in 1994, together with Prof. Wachtel. In early 2009, they opened the “BolzWachtel Dental Clinic”. He is organizer of numerous national and international meetings and workshops and (co-)author of many scientific articles on periodontology and implant dentistry.
