Treatment of Peri-Implantitis - Electrolytic Cleaning
Summary
Combination of electrolytic cleaning and GBR in the treatment of peri-implantitis
There is a clinical need for more effective approaches to decontaminating infected implants. In a recent RCT, electrolytic cleaning was used to achieve complete regeneration of bone surrounding 12 implants (2). In this case report, Dr Pohl explains the process of treating peri-implantitis in a step-by-step approach. He starts with the diagnosis of peri-implantitis. The next steps show accessing the affected implant by flap elevation and conducting the cleaning by using an electrolytic cleaning device (GalvoSurge®, Nobel Biocare). The subsequent steps demonstrate the application of Guided Bone Regeneration and closing the flap. The case report is concluded by presenting the follow-up of the treatment after 6 months and the successful maintenance of the formerly endangered implant.
Clinical Relevance
The case report shows the successful treatment of peri-implantitis using electrolytic cleaning for the removal of the biofilm on the affected implant and Guided Bone Regeneration to improve the bony situation for long-term implant stability.

Wonderful presentation. Was the implant re exposed after 3 months & do you have any post operative xrays at 3/12 ??
