Sreenivas Koka: Assessment of bone quality relevant for marginal bone integrity ?

The lecture discusses in how far the assessment of marginal bone can be a suitable measure for bone integrity and implant oesseointegration. Dr Koka reviews aspects of definition of bone quality and the concept of osseo-sufficiency, and shows that we still are influenced by biases and anchors, that have been changed by late scientific findings, such as implant treatment on osteoporotic patients or smokers. Marginal bone loss is not merely an infection disease, but may be caused by many non-infection variables, so osseoseparation may be a better term than peri-implantitis. Dr Koka compares treatment ends and goals, and questions if the surrogates and related means to measure the success of the treatment steps are suitable ones. Dr Koka concludes, that a surgeon's intuitive assessment can probably be a better predictor for integration than any of the popular surrogates.
