Sanda Moldovan: Decision-making process for completely edentulating patients

With more than 178 million Americans missing at least one tooth, there's a great need for identifying dental implant solutions with long-term stability. Instead of treating tooth by tooth, the dental practitioner should assess the mouth functioning as a whole.

This presentation will provide guidelines on whether or not to extract compromised teeth, or even sacrifice good teeth when necessary to achieve full mouth stability and function. Managing these patients from a psychological perspective can be difficult. Tips will be given on how to present the treatment plan and help your patients make the right decision and also making sure that their expectations are aligned with your vision as a dental practitioner.  

Dr. Sanda Moldovan, DDS, MS, CNS is a periodontist and nutritionist, author, and consultant on oral health, periodontics, dental implants, and integrative nutrition. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, practicing in Beverly Hills, California and Manhattan, New York, with an emphasis on full-arch immediate load prostheses. She received her certificate in periodontics and an MS in oral biology from the UCLA School of Dentistry and a certificate in nutrition from CBNS. She is an internationally recognized speaker who continues to inform the public and dentists about the advancements in dental implants and nutrition on different platforms, such as radio, TV and social media. She has taught courses such as 'implants a to z' at the UCLA School of Dentistry since 2005. She is a faculty member at the Global Institute for Dental Education (gIDE), where she also performs live surgeries, as well as leading hand-on courses. Dr. Moldovan is an Editor for Inside Dentistry magazine and has written several articles on postoperative healing and dental implants.
