Intra-oral scanning devices have existed for nearly thirty years with a rapid increase in the number of commercial solutions. The major question remains – “are we there yet?” The technology brings many benefits, but there are also several technical and clinical limitations. This is especially the case in extensive restorations and specifically in implant supported solutions. The lecture defines the existing workflows from both the dentist and dental technician’s view. Understanding these factors is key to a successful transition when adopting the intraoral scanning technology.
Dr. Nedelcu received his DDS from Karolinska Institutet in 1999 and completed a specialization in Oral Prosthetics in 2012. He is a senior clinical consultant in private practice and is undertaking Doctoral research in Digital Dentistry at Uppsala University, Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery. The topic of the research being clinical evaluation of intraoral scanners, virtual planning and associated CAD/CAM processes. He has experience in training both undergraduates as well as future specialists and lectures frequently for the industry and several educational bodies.
