Lucy Weibull: Long-term data from the Brånemark Clinic

Ever since professor Brånemark introduced titanium as biomaterial and treated the first patient in the 1960’s, the method for oral rehabilitation with dental implants has spread over the world. Over the years, it has become a widely used and documented therapy for edentulism. But what is there to learn as time passes? A lot has already been published, is there a need for more follow-up?

The Brånemark Clinic has developed and standardized re-call program in which implant patients are participating since 1993. The data collected helps us to detect and avoid risk factors, teaches us how to avoid pit falls and bring techniques and materials forward. Safety and reliability are the most important issues to the patient when discussing a therapy. In this lecture Dr. Weibull evaluates how the best and most honest way to plan a therapy is to turn to long term data.

Dr. Lucy Weibull received her DDS degree from University of Göteborg, Sweden, in 1998. She worked 1999–2004 in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Mölndal Hospital, which led to her starting with implant treatment in 2001. She had her postgraduate education in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Göteborg University from 2007–2012, which she combined with research and publication on bone augmentation. Dr. Weibull works at Brånemark Kliniken, Göteborg, but is also in private practice and gives lectures.
