Joannis Katsoulis: Accuracy of guided surgery
Video highlights
- Accuracy of guided vs. free-hand surgery
- Importance of the human factor in the equation
- Emerging technology general session
- Nobel Biocare New York Global Symposium 2016
What is the accuracy of guided surgery? How accurate is free hand surgery? These questions tend to underestimate the importance of the human factor in the equation. Although today’s systems build on highly accurate 3D information, indication setting, training, technique and skill-sets of the entire team are still defining reliability of such systems. This lecture will discuss specific steps in the workflow that matter most and their clinical implications.
Prof. Dr. Joannis Katsoulis, MAS, serves as an Associate Professor at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland, where he received his dental degree, doctorate, postgraduate certificate in prosthodontics and implant dentistry, and a professorship. He is the recipient of several research awards and holds also an appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Philadelphia, USA. He is currently the President of the scientific committee of the Swiss Society for Reconstructive Dentistry. His research activities mainly focus on computer-assisted technologies for implant planning, placement and prosthesis fabrication.
