Hadi Antoun: Is it reasonable to extract and place implants immediately in the molar area?

Replacing the hopeless prognosis molar with an implant is one of the most predictable treatment options in dentistry today. Nonetheless, there are several barriers to the acceptance of this treatment protocol, such as length of treatment and prolonged chair time. Placing and provisionalizing implants immediately in posterior sites offers the possibility to overcome these barriers, resulting in a more positive experience for both patients and practitioners.

This lecture will focus on key aspects related to immediate implant placement and provisionalization in the posterior region. An original technique to optimize functional and esthetic outcomes will be presented, together with long-term clinical data supporting this treatment protocol.

Dr. Hadi Antoun obtained his DDS degree from Lyon University Hospital in 1986. He also has a specialty certificate in oral biology and periodontology from Paris 7 University, a postgraduate certificate in implantology from Misch Implant Institute, Pittsburgh, US and a postgraduate diploma in oral implantology, also from Paris 7 University. Dr. Antoun has occupied a clinical assistant position at the Department of Oral Surgery and Implantology at Paris 7 University, has a private clinical practice for periodontology and implantology in Paris and is the Director of the Training Institute for Advanced Implant Surgery (IFCIA). He also is an expert for the Paris Court. Dr. Antoun has published several national and international articles, a textbook on bone augmentations and, recently, a textbook on sinus grafting. He has been involved in several clinical studies in bone grafting and immediate loading.
