Gwen Swennen: A new 'surface to Cone Beam CT' registration method for enhanced diagnostics and virtual planning of orthognathic surgery
Video highlights
- Patient assessment parameters and 3D virtual planning for orthognathic surgery
- Study results on a new surface to CBCT registration method - smart fusion technology
- Smart fusion technology reduces streak artefacts, patient X-ray exposure, provides eays workflow and is as accurate as standrad triple scan method
Orthognathic surgery treatment planning should include assessment of the entire face, especially in two third profiles, facial, upper dental and lower dental midlines, occlusal cants, and asymmetries, both in rest and dynamically. Dr Swennen emphasizes the importance of individualized treatment plans to achieve facial harmony and balance, good esthetics and function. Conventional treatment planning has been well established, however has been shifted routinely to 3D virtual planning for implant-, head and neck- and orthognathic surgery. 3D virtual planning creates a virtual articulator, allowing to pitch, roll and yaw mandible and maxilla to identify optimal jaw position and relation. However, single CBCT scanning can provide inaccurate results due to scattering and lead to falsified 3D model of patient anatomy. The current triple scan protocol to overcome this challenge is considered the technical gold standard, but complex and time consuming. Dr Swennen presents study results on a new surface to Cone Beam Registration method, and concludes that this smart fusion technology with a single CBCT patient scan reduces streak artefacts and patient Xray exposition, provides a facilitated, more streamlined and flexible workflow, and is highly and comparably accurate to the triple scan standard.

Want to augument my face
I am interested in having a strong masculine augmentation.I do not know whether it can be done with implants or surgeries.I have a short face right from my teenage years compared to men of my age and I am 34 years. I have attached photos of models for reference purposes along with my own .I want to make it clear that I want to have an augmented version of aesthetically pleasant myself only. I did a conservative buccal fat removal surgery in 2019 and circumcision to treat my phimosis in 2020.I feel that my masseter is very wide so a little bit of shaving along with jowl lipo, chin lipo and necklift can be tried to make my face elongated from the round shape which I have now..In addition I need to have1. rhinoplasty to elongate my nose 2. Angular jaw3. Malar augmentation 4. Sliding genioplasty with vertical lengthening of my chin5. Face firming if absolutely necessary.
