Eirik Salvesen: Bringing together new product innovations in a cement-free posterior solution

Posterior implant placement is a common treatment modality in our practices.  However, it poses many challenges for the clinician.  Dr. Salvesen discusses the need for simple, predictable, and reliable options in order to provide treatment that limits the patient’s “time to teeth.”  Choosing an implant system involves multiple factors which are patient and site specific.  While it is convenient to only use one implant design it is important to have options. Another consideration when choosing an implant system is the surgical and prosthetic components.  Often, when restoring a single missing posterior tooth the clinician will face multiple challenges including access, soft tissue closure, emergence profile, and retrievability, to name a few.  Currently available wide diameter implants, anatomical PEEK healing abutments and the angulated screw channel (ASC) abutment allow resolution of these issues with posterior implant rehabilitation.

Dr. Eirik Aasland Salvesen received a DDS degree in 1999 and achieved his Specialist status in Periodontology in 2007 from the University of Bergen, Norway. He is a partner at TSMG Madlagården in Stavanger where he serves as the Director of the TSMG Academy. Since 2004 he has been a member of the Nobel Biocare Mentorship program and since 2009 works as Nobel Biocare Clinical Consultant for the Nordic countries. He is an international lecturer in periodontology and implant dentistry.
