Alfred Lau: Immediate implants in the esthetic zone - keys to success
Video highlights
- Success factors for immediate implant placement from a surgical perspective
- BALS rule: Biotype, angulation and position, level of bone and support of prosthesis
- Macao 2015 symposium presentation
Dr. Lau reviews success factors for immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone from a surgical perspective. He presents the BALS rule (biotype, angulation and position, level of bone and support of prosthesis) and walks the audience through the importance of each factor. A harmonious balance between these aspects supports treatment success. Depending on biotype, immediate implant placement can have a higher risk of facial tissue recession, while delayed implant placement could lead to interproximal tissue loss. The biological width is different at facial and interproximal sites, and the different tissue response at these locations has to be considered. A suitable position and angulation of the implant in the socket is crucial, and Dr. Lau provides tips and recommendations to be considered for 3D implant positioning.
