Guided placement of zygomatic implants
A 68-year-old female patient suffered from tooth loss and removable dentures for more than 20 years. The upper and lower dentures were very painful and constantly moved on the underlying gum tissue. Due to years of denture wearing, patient experienced continued resorption of the jawbones, to the point where the upper jaw had an insufficient bone for dental implants. Patient on the first consultation was explained the severely atrophic condition of the upper jaw and the expansion of the sinuses. Without extensive bone grafting, usually using the hip as a donor site, standard dental implants were an impossible option. A protocol considering four zygomatic implants was chosen to avoid lengthy and invasive bone grafting procedures.
