Joseph Kan: Evidence-based immediate tooth replacement

Dr Kan leads through a journey on immediate implant placement from both a surgical and prosthetic point of view, discussing aspects of soft and hard tissue condition, interaction of implant size, diameter, position and socket form, influences of crestal bone condition and biologic width, and presenting innovative prosthetic options. In particular the lecture highlights how to optimize the gingival contour in the esthetic zone. To compensate for inherent bone loss and buccal plate collapse, it is crucial to support the buccal plate and bone crest with grafting the gap inside and additionally support the facial soft tissue with a connective tissue graft. The gap size should be min 1.5 mm. To avoid cementation induced complications, screw-retained prosthetic restoration design is preferrable. To overcome the potential position of the screw-channel access on the facial side of the restoration in extension of the implant axis, Dr Kan demonstrates an innovative angulated screw-channel system which allows to place the screw access on the palatal side of the anterior crown.
