The digital workflow offers considerable new treatment options and opportunities for high precision restorations, yet requires to follow a strict protocol and some challenges like the correct visualization of soft tissue configuration remain. To overcome this, combination of CBCT scan and model scan data enables diagnostic assessment of soft tissue, however technically the data combination is challenging, being user-defined leaves potential for manipulation errors and seems too time consuming for wide use in clinical practice. Dr Holst presents an innovative new technology, fusing and aligning CBCT and model scan data automatically and discusses the advantages of this technology, such as improved visualization and treatment planning, correct soft tissue assessment, elimination of need for radiographic guide and considerably higher flexibilty of workflow and treatment execution.
